Gilt-finished three quarter plate jewelled lever movement, bimetallic compensation balance, free sprung regulator with diamond endstone, white enamel dial, Roman numerals, two subsidiary dials for power reserve and constant seconds, circular water-resistant-type case, screw bezel, screw back, protective screw-down crown cap attached to the case with a short chain, movement wound through the crown and with a key, hands set with a key, case numbered 629, stamped ATO and with London date letter for 1913, dial and movement signed and numbered

With original fitted three-tier mahogany box, the cover set with a plaque inscribed Herbert Blockley & Co. 31629 London.

Such water-resistant "Explorers" watches were mostly commissioned by The Royal Geographic Society for use on expeditions to places where severe climate conditions would be expected, such as the Arctic. The sealed cases protected the movements against humidity and the cold.
Herbert Blockley, associated with J.A. Lund under the firm of Lund & Blockley, was working at Duke Street in London until the 1920s.
