The present work relates to Craxton's visits to Pembrokeshire in 1943 and 1944, spurred by Graham Sutherland.

There is a similar work of the same title, dated 1945, listed as being in the collection of Lucian Freud (see G. Grigson, John Craxton Paintings and Drawings, Horizon, 1948, no. 2).
