The portfolios of the Künstlervereinigung Brücke were issued annually for the so-called 'passive members'; patrons, collectors and friends of the group, who for a fee of 12 marks (later increased to 25 marks) received a membership card, one portfolio of prints each year and a newsletter. By the time the group split up in 1913, there were 68 such 'passive members'.

The present, fourth portfolio from 1909 was the first dedicated to a single artist and the first one with a printed paper wrapper, which from then on was traditionally designed by a fellow member, in this case Kirchner.

The portfolio includes:
Ernst Ludwig Kirchner, Umschlag der IV. Jahresmappe der Künstlergruppe Brücke 1909 (Dube 706), woodcut, 1909.
Karl Schmidt-Rottluff, Bildnis Erich Heckel (Schapire 56), lithograph, 1909.
Karl Schmidt-Rottluff, Berliner Strasse in Dresden (Schapire 57), lithograph, 1909.
Karl Schmidt-Rottluff, Altdresdner Häuser (Schapire 9), etching, 1909.
