Adelaide Annabella Dalton (1821-1895), later Lady Lisgar, greatly admired Lear's work. Following the death of her first husband, Lord Lisgar, she married Sir Francis Turville of Bosworth Hall, Leicestershire. 'Did you see that Lady Lisgar is married again?... she must be at least sixty-three' Lear wrote to Lord Carlingford in a letter dated 28 October 1878 (ed. Lady Strachey, Later Letters of Edward Lear, London, 1911, p. 212). Her second husband was some 24 years younger than Lady Lisgar. She was to marry a third time.
