A PAIR OF LARGE CLOISONNE ENAMEL PEAR-SHAPED BOTTLE VASES
QING DYNASTY, 19TH CENTURY
Each of the compressed globular bodies is decorated with two five-clawed dragons, in red and in purple, riding over breaking waves towards a palace building from opposite directions. Each is surmounted by a tall neck rising to a slightly flaring gilt rim. The neck is encircled by a further descending dragon in yellow chasing a 'flaming pearl' amidst clouds, bordered by rings of lotus petals and ruyi heads.
