Laetitia (d. 1821) was the daughter of Henry Wyndham, Esq. of Salisbury, and married Sir William Pierce Ashe à Court (c. 1747-1816) on 30 October 1777. Sir William was M.P. for Heytesbury and was created a baronet in 1795. Several sittings for Romney are recorded in April and May of 1786.

We are grateful to Alex Kidson for his assitance in cataloguing this lot. Dr. Kidson will include this painting in his forthcoming catalogue raisonée on the artist.
