Trees, a symbol of Antiquity and eternal life, symbolise Iraqi painter Suad Al-Attar's attachment to her homeland, the cradle of civilisation laying in between the Tigris and the Euphrates. Its blue tint, along with the simultaneously soft, yet lively, colours draws attention to the tree's centre give the painting a dreamlike and poetic feel, true to the artist's original style. The full moon and the mystical landscape in the background exude tranquility, serenity and peace. The artist, who left Baghdad for London in 1976, is longingly exploring her relationship with her motherland from afar and longing for a glorious past.
