Sword guards of this type have been found in tombs of Western Han date, such as the example illustrated in Jades from the Tomb of the King of Nanyue, Hong Kong, 1991, no. 205. Compare, also, the sword guard of similar shape with similar angular scroll design illustrated by J. So, Chinese Jades from the Cissy and Robert Tang Collection, Art Museum, Institute of Chinese Studies, The Chinese University of Hong Kong, 2015, p. 128, no. 23b; and another included in Illustrated Catalogue of Ancient Jade Artifacts in The National Palace Museum, Taipei, 1982, no. 305.
