A PALE YELLOWISH OLIVE-WHITE JADE CICADA
HAN DYNASTY, 2ND-1ST CENTURY BC
Carved in antiquity from a fragment, the head, pronounced eyes, and wings of the thin cicada are formed by deep, wedge-shaped grooves on the top of the body, while the slightly concave flat underside retains the triangular and scroll designs of the earlier piece. The semi-translucent stone has some opaque, ivory-colored alteration.
2 ½ in. (6.3 cm.) long
