Shenyang is an archetypal industrial city in Northern China. Following the national economic restructuring of production in the 1980s, Shenyang transformed from an important city of national infrastructure to a lethargic town. Zhao Bo lived in this town and witnessed the changes. In Flowers Blooming - No. 3 (Lot 132), the romantic sea of flowers cover the land all the way to the horizon. The artist uses the pyramid as a symbol to suggest the contrasting ideas of civilisation and nature, as well as vitality and atrophy. Changes in society can induce a chronic state of anxiety and uncertainty for those who live there. The exploration of possibilities in the future is a wellspring of inspiration for artists.
