In 1914 Brockhurst and his first wife, Anaïs, spent several months travelling through France and Italy. Brockhurst can into the work of the Italian masters for the first time, and was particularly influenced by the artists of the quattrocento. These elegant, fluid nude studies reveal this early interest which was to play a part throughout his career.
