QIANLONG SIX-CHARACTER CAST SEAL MARKS AND OF THE PERIOD (1736-1795)
The archaistic vessel is raised on three leaf-form supports and the sides are cast with a broad band of cell diaper below narrow bands of key frets and stylised foliate scroll interrupted by a pair of dragon handles. The cover is similarly decorated with a band of stylised foliate scroll below a narrow band of key frets and a broad band of wan diaper, all beneath a roundel enclosing a flowerhead suspending stylised foliate scroll topped with three leaf-form finials.

Compare to two bronze xing of comparable size without covers dated to Qianlong period, sold at Christie’s New York, 17 September 2015, lot 2114. Compare, also, a white-glazed porcelain example dated to the Qianlong period with identical decoration and shape in the Palace Museum, Beijing, illustrated in China: The Three Emperors, 1662-1795, London, 2005, p. 125, no. 36, and another porcelain example of this type in the National Palace Museum, Taipei, illustrated in the exhibition catalogue Emperor Chien-lungs Grand Cultural Enterprise, Taipei, p. 172, fig. v-5.
