SIGNED QIAN SHOUTIE, REPUBLIC PERIOD
Comprised of five soapstone seals of varying shapes and sizes, all bearing the signature of Qian Shoutie on the sides and with inscriptions on seal faces, including a square seal with a tile-shaped finial carved for Takashima Kikujiro dated 1929; a tortoise-form finial seal dated 1931; a rectangular seal with a sloping top incised with a descending phoenix; a small square seal with a lion-form finial; and a small rectangular seal.

Qian Shoutie (1896-1967) was a renowned painter, calligrapher, epigraphist and seal carver active during the Republic period.

Kaiankyo is the name of the residence of Japanese industrialist Takashima Kikujiro (1875-1969), who began collecting Chinese calligraphy, paintings, seals in the 1920s. In 1965, he donated 278 pieces of calligraphy and paintings from his collection to the Tokyo National Museum.
