There exists a small range of bowls and dishes from the Kangxi period that displays a design of butterflies in flight amidst red berries on leafy branches, similar in style to that of the present lot.

A dish of the same pattern, also with a Chenghua mark and dated to the Kangxi period, is illustrated in Splendour of the Qing Dynasty, Hong Kong, 1992, p.299, no. 166. Compare the present lot also to other Kangxi famille verte dishes of this pattern bearing Chenghua marks, including two sold at Sotheby’s Hong Kong, one from the British Rail Pension Fund, 16 May 1989, lot 74; and the other from the Bernat Collection ,15 November 1988, lot 20.
