The form of this vase is inspired by the ritual Han bronze vessel, hu, but the type in the present lot, with long cylindrical neck and rimless foot, is derived from the Xuande arrow vase and was produced during the Yongzheng period. Because of the technical difficulties of this type, its quality is considered to be rare, particularly those as large and as impressive in size with blue and white decorations.
