The forward-facing recumbent posture, block-like body and archaistic scroll decoration are all very similar to a jade water buffalo (6.2 cm.) from the tomb of the Shang queen, Fu Hao, consort of king Wu Ding, at Anyang, Henan province, illustrated in The Jades from Yinxu, Beijing, 1981, no. 77 (410).
