Conversation in the Pavilion attributed to 14th-century artist Xu Ben was published in the Fine Art Journal published by the Chinese Painting Studies & Research Society in Beijing in 1929. Zhang Daqian admired this painting and emulated the work twice, in 1947 and 1949. The present lot is the version he painted in 1949. This season, Christie’s Fine Chinese Classical Painting and Calligraphy auction is proud to offer the original painting attributed to Xu Ben (Lot 888) on 29 November 2021.
