New York artist Lady Pink got her start writing graffiti in 1979. Working among some of the most influential street art groups in the city, Lady Pink painted trains through the mid-1980s. Significantly, Lady Pink made a name for herself with her unique style in the male-dominated world of street art. Like many of her contemporaries, she transitioned to showing in galleries as her canvas works became more politically-charged, dealing with themes associated with issues affecting women and those living in urban environments in the United States.
