The tapering cabinet is one of the classic forms in Chinese furniture, prized for its elegant lines and strong silhouette. The combination of huanghuali and huamu burl elevates this already refined cabinet design. The lighter tones of huanghuali beautifully contrast with the darker, swirled grain of the burl creating a pleasing aesthetic. An elegant pair of huamu-inset huanghuali round-corner cabinets of more slender proportions were sold at The Collection of Robert H. Ellsworth Part II: Chinese Furniture, Works of Art and Chinese Paintings; Christie’s New York, 18 March 2015, lot 115.
