Two other portraits of seated figures, finely executed in graphite and dated 1852, can be compared with the present drawing: the portrait de Madame Besson and that of Alfred Lalouel de Sourdeval, both in private collections (P.-L. Mathieu, Gustave Moreau. Monographie et nouveau catalog de l’œuvre achevé, Paris, 1998, nos. 14, 17, ill.).
