This phenomenal Royal Oak Self-winding Perpetual Calendar Ultra-Thin was launched as the world’s thinnest automatic perpetual calendar wristwatch. A contemporary horological masterpiece with a movement measuring only 2.89 mm. thick and cased in satin-brushed titanium with a platinum bezel and bracelet centre links, it is both lightweight and extremely elegant. The stunning blue satin-brushed dial is an outstanding piece of design, displaying complex indications that are clear and easy to read yet pleasing to the eye. The ultra-thin RD#2 perpetual calendar was initially launched in 2018 at the SIHH as a prototype concept watch, with a case and bracelet in solid platinum and a ‘grand tapisserie’ blue dial. The watch caused a sensation, being the thinnest perpetual calendar wristwatch in the world at that time and the thinnest ever Royal Oak with a height of only 6.3 mm. The caliber AP 5133 automatic movement is a technical wonder, with full perpetual calendar, moon phase, day/night and leap-year indications, its incredible thinness was made possible by a complete redesign of the complications so that certain functions are combined and the dial itself acts as an extra movement plate.
The present RD#2, reference 26586IP, was launched in 2019 as the first full production model and features a brushed blue non-tapisserie dial. The 41 mm. diameter case is larger than the traditional Royal Oak ‘Jumbo’ at 39 mm. The case and bracelet are made from titanium with 950 platinum bezel and bracelet centre links, this combination provides the same stunning aesthetic, yet is of course much lighter on the wrist than its predecessor.
Production of the RD#2 is extremely limited and is consequently almost impossible to obtain.
