A variation of the iconic ‘Golden Ellipse Jumbo’ and a significant rarity, very few white gold reference 3631 are known. The present timepiece is elevated even further as one of only a handful of examples with a lapis lazuli dial - one of the amazing classics of the 1970s. Today, Patek Philippe wristwatches with hardstone dials are a favourite with collectors as true vintage pieces that were only ever made in very small numbers.
Of all the hardstone dial materials, lapis lazuli, the favoured gem of Egyptian pharaohs and Royal dynasties throughout history, is perhaps the most eye-pleasing: not only is the deep blue colour breathtaking, but the stone’s natural inclusions add depth, movement and flair to the dial. These dials are known for their fragile nature and are increasingly scarce to find in unharmed condition.
