The present composition is derived from Rembrandt's etching and engraving The Raising of Lazarus: The Larger Plate, dated to circa 1632 (New York, The Metropolitan Museum of Art, inv. no. 17.37.194). Dendrochronological analysis of the oak panel provides the earliest felling date of circa 1633, with a probable usage date from 1635 to 1641 onwards (report by Prof. Dr. Peter Klein, 12 August 2024, available upon request).
