A highly important piece of heavyweight horology, yet elegantly beautiful, this yellow gold Vacheron Constantin Minute Repeater is one of a 2005 limited edition of only two pieces in yellow gold with open worked dial. To the best of our knowledge, the present watch is the first of those two watches to be offered at international auction. This reference 30010/00J-9132 offers collectors perhaps the only chance to obtain one of the most exclusive of all Vacheron Constantin’s spectacular ultra-thin minute repeaters. Moreover, the present watch has been a treasured highlight of The Eternity Collection and is preserved and presented in excellent condition with full set of accessories.
Distinguished by its ultra-slim mid-century design case inspired by Vacheron’s heritage repeater writwatches, with stylish tear-drop lugs, this exceptional timepiece is certainly one of the most formidable minute repeating wristwatches of the modern era.
The superb and highly attractive annular dial has an 18k gold silvered chapter ring and applied yellow gold hour indexes, the remarkable minute repeating movement is displayed in the centre and features a hand-decorated hour wheel, the repeating is activated by the slide on the case band and delights the owner with its resonant and clear chime.
The present reference, 30010/000J-9132, is fitted with the manual winding caliber 1755 minute repeating movement, amongst all the complications which can be found in wristwatches, minute repeaters are one of the most challenging to construct with only a handful of manufacturers capable of producing this exclusive mechanism for their wristwatches. Vacheron Constantin surpassed even this technical challenge by making the caliber ultra-thin, thus combining two complications requiring special manufacturing know-how and tremendous skills. Made in collaboration with complication specialists Dubois-Dépraz, after four years of development it was introduced in 1992, Vacheron Constantin’s 237th anniversary. Measuring only 3.28 millimeters in depth, it is the thinnest minute repeater ever made by the company and thinner than the more recent caliber 1731 that was introduced in 2013, which measures 3.90 millimeters.
