A version of the present composition was executed in 1957 and subsequently exhibited at the Royal Academy and the Glasgow Institute of Fine Art as 'Ballerinas, At the Make-Up Table' (sold Sotheby's, London, 14 December 2006, lot 198).

A label on the reverse indicates it may have been considered for Knight's retrospective at the Royal Academy in 1965. It was not however included.
