Cast Away follows the adventures of Chuck [Tom Hanks], a FedEx employee stranded on a desert island after a plane crash. Chuck finds the Wilson brand volleyball in one of many FedEx packages washed ashore and he creates Wilson who becomes his companion during his four years on the island. As time passes, Wilson's appearance becomes more disheveled, mirroring Chuck's physical decline. The markings on this ball match the ball seen onscreen in Cast Away, during the scene in the cave when Chuck has built a fire.
