Compare a very similar cloisonné pomegranate form vessel dated to the early Qing dynasty in the collection of the Palace Museum, illustrated in Zhongguo jinyin boli falangqi quanji: Falangqi, vol. 5, Beijing, 2002, fig. 141. It is interesting to note that this distinctive form also appears on porcelains of the period, including a Yongzheng marked lapis lazuli glazed example published in The Complete Collection of Treasures of the Palace Museum: Monochrome Porcelain, Hong Kong, 1999, p. 218, no. 196.
Particularly noteworthy is the treatment of the lotus scrolls on the present vase. The curling leaf tips and the incorporation of ruyi shaped petals are stylistic features characteristic of seventeenth century cloisonné decoration. Compare, for example, the lotus motifs on a barrel shaped cloisonné vase illustrated in Chinese Cloisonné: The Pierre Uldry Collection, London, 1989, pl. 186, likewise dated to the seventeenth century.
