The Vagabondage collection occupies a unique place within the history of F.P. Journe. Originally conceived for Antiquorum's 30th Anniversary charity auction in Geneva in 2004, benefiting the Institut du Cerveau et de la Moelle Épinière (ICM) in Paris, it represented one of François-Paul Journe's most unconventional creations. Departing entirely from the manufacture's established design language, the watch was housed in a flat tortue-shaped case rather than the signature round form and, for the first time, omitted the F.P. Journe – Invenit et Fecit signature from the dial, allowing the originality of the concept to speak for itself.

Three unique examples, executed in yellow, pink, and white gold respectively, were created for the auction. Their remarkable reception encouraged the manufacture to produce a discreetly released limited edition of just 69 platinum pieces fitted with an 18K pink gold movement. Introduced without advertising, official photographs, or promotional campaign, the model quickly became one of the most coveted creations among collectors, cementing the legendary status of the Vagabondage I.

The present second-generation Vagabondage features a manually wound movement displayed beneath a smoked sapphire crystal dial, through which the beautifully finished 18K pink gold calibre can be admired. Time is indicated by an innovative digital jumping display, complemented by a power reserve indicator at 12 o'clock and small seconds at 6 o'clock. Named Vagabondage in reference to its wandering digital display and its unconventional tortue-shaped case, the model remains one of the most daring and distinctive creations ever produced by François-Paul Journe.
