This large-scale and freely painted watercolour is typical of Knight's work in the 1940s. The view of the present watercolour has been identified as being on Walter and Fred Bishop’s Farm, near Knight’s studio at Wynds Point, British Camp, Malvern Hills, which she portrayed throughout her stays there during and immediately after World War II. Two similar watercolours of cornfields are in the UK Government Art Collection, acquired directly from the artist in 1953 (inv. 2103 and 2104).

The watercolour is no. #1067 'Corn Stooks No.2' in the catalogue raisonné of Dame Laura Knight currently being compiled by R John Croft FCA, the great-nephew of the artist. We are grateful for his assistance in preparing this catalogue entry.
