TANZANITE
Tanzania, circa 2000
All tanzanite gems come from crystals, and all crystals only come from one mine on earth, a few square km near Mt. Kilimanjaro. Most gemmy transparent to translucent crystals, even if found intact, are cut. Also, the mine is now pushing over a kilometer deep, with perhaps diminishing returns for effort and expense. This is therefore a diminishing generational resources, and while gems are available, crystals are decidedly more rarely preserved. The impressive crystal with strong saturation of natural colours from hot blues and purples and violet-red when lit upwards from the bottom (a sign of natural coloration in tanzanite). With a custom lucite base for display.
