The Franca Fund

The Franca Sozzani Fund for Preventive Genomics is a research and advocacy organization dedicated to advancing the study and implementation of preventative genomics. Its mission is to ensure that everyone, regardless of ethnicity or socioeconomic background, may benefit from cutting-edge personalized medical treatments for a variety of health concerns.

The Franca Fund was established in 2018 by filmmaker Francesco Carrozzini, recording artist and investor D.A. Wallach, and Dr. Robert Green, an internationally acclaimed medical geneticist and physician-scientist. As a tribute to Franca Sozzani’s visionary spirit and commitment to humanitarianism, the Fund is at the forefront of science, medicine and philanthropy. It supports the use of genomic data to help predict and prevent diseases before symptoms arise, with a focus on underserved communities that have historically been excluded from such innovation. Together, The Franca Fund and Dr. Green’s team are reimagining how we approach healthcare with a powerful blend of science, ethics and advocacy.

Dr. Robert Green

Robert Green, MD, MPH completed his undergraduate studies at Amherst College, earned his MD from the University of Virginia School of Medicine, and received an MPH in epidemiology from Emory University. He completed residency training at Harvard Medical School and is board certified in both neurology and medical genetics.

He is currently a professor of medicine at Harvard Medical School and directs the Genomes2People (G2P) Research Program, the Preventive Genomics Clinic and the Population Precision Health initiative at Mass General Brigham, Broad Institute and Ariadne Labs. His pioneering efforts are at the forefront of using DNA analysis (“genomics”) to find hidden health risks and prevent disease in both adults and children, paving the way for the medical field to transform from reactive to preventive. Through rigorous scientific research, G2P is establishing a foundation of evidence for genomic medicine that will accelerate the adoption of novel genomics-based technologies, model new approaches to care, and explore ways for patients, physicians and consumers to use genomic information to achieve improved health and longevity.

Dr. Green and his team are currently focused on the BabySeq Project, the NIH-funded initiative and the world’s first to introduce comprehensive DNA sequencing for apparently healthy infants which has published extensively on medical benefits, psychosocial outcomes and medical costs associated with newborn and childhood sequencing.
