Leng Mei zi Jichen, hao Qingmen waishi and Jinmen huashi, born in Jiao county, Shandong province. Leng Mei was a disciple of Jiao Bingzhen and learned to paint figures well, especially those of beautiful women. He devoted himself to the Kangxi emperor's ministry, and was chosen as one of the team of artists (led by Wang Yuanqi) to work on the Long Life Festival Painting in 1717. His skill in painting was calligraphic as well. He could exquisitely depict palace buildings in a vivid and lively style with the aid of a ruler. Critics have noted that his works are clean and sharp, filled with color and elegance, but still follow his master's style very closely, and perhaps were too craftsmanlike. His famous works include Sunrise and a copy of Qiu Ying's Spring Morning in the Han Palace, painted in 1703.
