The catalogue Objects of Art of Three Continents and Antique Oriental Rugs, The Extensive Collection of the Louis Comfort Tiffany Foundation, presented hundreds of items once in the personal collection of Louis Comfort Tiffany and taken from his Long Island home, Laurelton Hall. The auction was conducted by the Parke-Bernet Galleries over several days in late September of 1946. The present example is very likely the same item as lot 54 in the Tiffany Foundation catalogue, described thus: "FAVRILE GLASS HANGING REFLECTOR, Oval and centering a huge scarab, within a border of flame red leaded glass segments. Fitted for electricity, with suspension bar. Height 15 1/2 inches". It is interesting to note that the hammer price achieved in the 1946 sale was $30.
