During the 1850's figurine salt cellars wearing tradional European dress became popular, the majority made by Robert Garrard for R. & Garrard & Co. A set of four silver-gilt salt cellars made by Sebastian Garrard, in 1905, two of which are very similar to the girls in the present set were recently exhibited in Royal Goldsmiths, The Garrard Heritage.
