The Roman pedimented mirror, with Apollo head keystone is designed in the antique style promoted by James Gibbs in his Book of Architecture, 1728 and William Jones in his The Gentleman's or Builder's Companion, 1739 (see P.Ward-Jackson, English Furniture Designs, London, 1958, pl.25).
The mirror may have been acquired by Sir E. Lawson, later Lord Burnham, at the time of his aggrandisement of Hall Barn, Buckinghamshire which he purchased in 1882. Colin Campbell was one of the architects involved in this ancient mansion and his 1728 design for a banqueting room features in his Vitruvius Britannicus, vol.III.
