A late 16th/17th century pair of boxwood nutcrackers, modelled as a bishop's head and a stylized bird and animal, carved with the legend He that is willinge/peace for to make/must be indifferent/and no partie take, the body bearing a fleur-de-lis below a coronet -- 8¼in. (21cms.) long.
