We have attributed the doll to the tribes of Sudan because of the small carved wooden breasts set in gum, but the elaborate hairstyle is closer to those found amongst the tribes in the area of Zambia, northern Angola and south-eastern Zaire. Many tribes in Africa use red earth so that is unlikely to help us trace the origin of this rare doll
