A complete famille rose gold-ground altar garniture, including a pair of candlesticks identical to this example, was included in the Macau exhibition Catalogue, Lightness of Essence, Tibetan Buddhist Relics of the Palace Museum, Macau, 2004, no. 107-7.
Famille rose gold-ground ritual vessels are extremely rare, and presumably were made for a specific imperial altar probably within the palace. Cf. a gold-ground Tibetan-style ewer from the KS Lo Collection, now in the Hong Kong Museum of Art, included in their Exhibition The Wonders of the Potter's Palette, 1984, no. 68. Compare also to a Qianlong-marked vase included in the Special Exhibition of K'ang-Hsi, Yung-Cheng and Ch'ien-Lung Porcelain Ware From the Ch'ing Dynasty in the National Museum, Taibei, 1986, illustrated in the Catalogue, no. 118.
