A table to the same design as the present lot formed part of the collection of Jacques Doucet (sold Hotel Drouot, Paris, November 8, 1972, lot 49). Groult's work was also represented in Doucet's collection by an ebony, galuchat and ivory secretaire, designed circa 1913.
Chanaux collaborated with designer André Groult following the 1914-18 war; in 1927 he went into association with the cabinet maker Pelletier, prior to his successful partnership with Jean-Michel Frank in the 1930s.
