A portrait miniature of George Lacey Ducoeurdoux, half-length in uniform coat with gold epaulette to right shoulder, white waistcoat and black stock -- 1 3/16in x 7/8in. (3.5 x 2cm.) with glazed reverse in fitted red leather case; together with his gold cameo ring bearing the face of a cherub, 18th-century. (2)

George Lacey Decoeurdoux (c.1770-1850) joined the navy as officer's servant in 1789 and witnessed several actions prior to Trafalgar, including the capture of the Guillaume Tell in 1800 (one of the French ships which escaped after the Battle of the Nile). Retiring a Commander in 1844, he died in 1850.
