FIRST EDITION illustrated with 50 of the 2100 species of plants collected over sixteen years by the American naturalist, Horsfield, which he brought back to England from Java. While Robert Brown did the cataloguing, John Bennett prepared the descriptions of the plants, some of which were drawn and lithographed for this work by John Curtis of Norwich. He also prepared drawings and engravings for Horsfield's other major work, Zoological Researches in Java 1821-1824. Nissen 934; Haks & Maris, p.65.
