There is a long tradition of knitting in German speaking countries, which includes the items familar to us of gloves and jackets as well as pictorial hangings of extremely high technical and visual interest. Here we see the typical combination of rich red silk with gold tread often seen on jerkins and gloves. The Ikle Collection was particularly rich in this area.
