After the picture at Burghley House, Lincolnshire, exhibited at the Royal Academy in 1770, no.118, and engraved by Burke and by William Wynne Ryland, 1778. The original was acquired by Cecil Brownlow, Lord Burghley, later 9th Earl of Exeter (1725-1793). He sat to Kauffmann after meeting her in Italy in 1764, and acquired a number of drawings and fourteen paintings from her over the years.
