This watercolour shows Daniëls' Magritte-like fondness of playing with words and images. Like Magritte, the artist deconstructs the link between language, image and meaning. Daniëls uses related, but not exact images, to apply new meaning to terms and concepts. This work centres around the word 'Bas', which in Dutch is both a boy's name and short for a contrabass (also known as a double bass). Daniëls tells the story of a girl who can not choose between two boys, each named Bas. He draws a figure which has three double basses dancing above her head. The musical instruments are metaphorical for three people in a difficult situation: 'Bas Contra Bas'.
