An early work by the artist showing the influence of trips to the artists colony in Laren, Holland, where she has used thick paint. The model is from Staithes, where Laura Knight lived from 1897-1908. Knight employed the children of local miners as models, and recalled in her autobiography how the fees she paid them helped the families make ends meet.
