With Patek Philippe Extract from the Archives confirming production of the present watch with silvered dial and applied yellow gold indexes in 1989 and its subsequent sale on 14 August 1989. Furthermore delivered with Patek Philippe fitted veneered presentation box.

Reference 3940, in production from 1985 until 2006, was available in different case materials, platinum being the rarest. The model is illustrated in Patek Philippe Wristwatches by Martin Huber & Alan Banbery, second edition, pp. 292-293.
