With Patek Philippe Extract from the Archives confirming production of the present watch with applied gold hour markers in 1950 and its subsequent sale on 22 April 1953.

A recent study reveals that Patek Philippe mounted different types of dial on reference 2524; either with or without subsidiary seconds and usally set with baton hour markers. Interestingly, the present watch is the only known reference 2524 to be fitted with a two-tone silvered dial with alterning applied small baton and Roman numerals and is consequently the rarest variant of all 2524 references. The study further reveals that less than 12 examples of reference 2524 are known to be made, reaffirming the extreme rarity of the present lot with this unique dial configuration, most certainly made on special request at the time by the original owner.

Another interesting feature on this watch are the curved sculpted lugs which differ from later counterparts reference 2524/1 & reference 2524/2, with "simple" downturned lugs.

The appeal of this rare watch is furthermore enhanced by the overall harmonious and overall pristine condition. The remarkable sharp definition to the case is still displaying a beautiful finish to the case sides and lugs. Most noticeable are the wonderfully sculpted lugs, still retaining remarkable definition, further highlighted by the presence of the original crown.

Reference 2524/1 is illustrated in Patek Philippe Wristwatches by Martin Huber & Alan Banbery, second edition, pp. 318 & 319.
