The enthusiastic response to his retrospective exhibition, 'The Decisive Moment: Photographs, 1930-1957' which toured in the U.S. from 1957 to 1960, prompted Henri Cartier-Bresson to make a selection of fourteen of his best images to be printed in limited editions of 50.
Prints were ordered through his agency, Magnum Photos, and printed by his lab in New York, as orders came in. The present lot was acquired by the owner at that time. Prints from this edition are highly sought after for their rich warm tones and distinctive texture.
