A PAIR OF GEORGE II SILVER CUPS AND COVERS

Each inverted bell-shaped and on spreading foot with cast and chased foliage strapwork border on matted ground, the lower body applied with alternating foliage and open-strapwork and mask cut-card decoration on a chased scale ground, with two leaf-capped handles, the detachable cover similarly chased and with baluster finial, later engraved with a coat-of-arms, the cover later engraved with a crest, each marked underneath and on cover bezel, each later engraved with a scratchweight '66=8' and '66=13'
9¼ in. (23.5 cm.) high
119 oz. 10 dwt. (3,716 gr.)
The arms are those of Maxwell with King in pretence for the Hon. Barry Maxwell, later 3rd Baron Farnham and the 1st Earl Farnham (1723-1800) and his first wife, Margaret, daughter and co-heir of Robert King of Meath, whom he married in 1757. (2)
