The present lot was recently discovered and makes part of a series of paintings depicting zodiac signs, which were executed in the 1940's. Another painting from this series 'Capricorn' was sold in these rooms on 28 May 2002, lot 191. (See: C. Blotkamp, B. Kempers, Pyke Koch. Schilderijen en Tekeningen, Rotterdam, 1995, p. 218, no. 40-43).
